Proc. 2017-33 - National Book Awards Festival Month - 4-17 PROCLAMATION NO. 2017-33 WHEREAS since 1950 the National Book Foundation has honored excellence in American literature by bestowing the National Book Awards, given to writers by writers; and WHEREAS the NBA on Campus program is returning for the fourth year to Sam Houston State University, HISD, and our community, one of only four such events in the country; and WHEREAS our community is also privileged to benefit during the school year from a local NBA BookUp program site, which encourages middle schoolers to read for pleasure and visit libraries and bookstores, and to enable them to have books in their homes; and WHEREAS through the generosity of SHSU, the dedication of Dr. Amanda Nowlin-O’Banion, and the support of our citizens, we are proud to welcome National Book Awards finalists and guests April 24-25 for a variety of events and learning interactions to celebrate the National Book Awards Festival here in Huntsville, Texas. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: April 2017 be declared: National Book Awards Festival Month in the City of Huntsville, and especially encourage all citizens to come out and show our special visitors the warm welcome for which we’re known, and thank them for sharing their experiences and talents with us.
