Proc. 2017-27 - NAACP honors FNB, 3-17 PROCLAMATION No. 2017-27 WHEREAS the First National Bank of Huntsville opened its doors for business on the downtown square in Huntsville as Gibbs National Bank on January 14, 1890 where it had previously provided banking services to the citizens of Huntsville through the family mercantile business that was opened in 1841; and WHEREAS in 1923, Gibbs National Bank changed its name to First National Bank of Huntsville and continued its growth and many contributions to the area; and WHEREAS the First National Bank of Huntsville has played a critical role in the development and growth of Huntsville by being a partner to our residents and business ventures; and WHEREAS the First National Bank of Huntsville has been a continuous financial support system for our community for 127 years as Huntsville’s only locally owned community bank. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that March 25, 2017 be designated as: First National Bank Day in Huntsville, Texas, and urge all citizens to join in the celebration of this rich part of our history and partner in our community’s endeavors.
