Proc. 2017-19 - Helen Belcher, 20th annual Citizen of the Year - 2-17 PROCLAMATION NO. 2017-19 WHEREAS for this 20th annual bestowal of Citizen of the Year Award it would be hard to find someone who is so very deserving as this previously nominated recipient, who has been serving our community for over 40 years; and WHEREAS this incredibly hard-working, generous and caring citizen has devoted her time and efforts to the former annual Halloween Carnivals, Huntsville Hornet Football, Huntsville High School and Stephen F. Austin University scholarships, library story time, the Girl Scouts of America, Arbor Day programs, Women’s Forum events, SAAFE House supply drives, the Sam Houston Folk Festival, the Tall Pines Quilt Guild and the Airing of the Quilts, anti-littering campaigns, and the Huntsville Main Street Program, just to list only a few of many such activities through the years; and WHEREAS this special individual is also a regular election worker and supporter of organ donation initiatives and her church community, in addition to having had long and busy careers at the City of Huntsville and then with the Sam Houston Memorial Museum, and there is likely no one else around who still checks so ardently for light pole outages on trips around town. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: February 24, 2017 be declared: Helen Belcher Day in the City of Huntsville, and encourage all citizens to recognize Helen Belcher’s contributions to make Huntsville a better place to live through her service, spirit, and dedication. PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED this the 24th day of February 2017. __ __________________ Andy Brauninger, Mayor
