PROCLAMATION
No. 2017-18
WHEREAS Dr. Ellen Ochoa is an accomplished and gifted American who has inspired many through her work with NASA and on many scientific pursuits; and
WHEREAS she is a veteran of four space flights and has logged nearly 1000 hours in space; and
WHEREAS Astronaut Ochoa’s hard work and successful career has led to four schools being named for her, including the Ellen Ochoa STEM Academy at Ben Milam Elementary in Grand Prairie,
Texas, and to her appointment as the Director of the Johnson Space Center; and
WHEREAS we call upon all to remember the space challenge laid down by President John F. Kennedy, and to thank Dr. Ochoa for continuing America’s charge for excellence and accomplishment
throughout the universe.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that
February 23, 2017
be designated as: Astronaut Ellen Ochoa Day
in Huntsville, Texas, and urge all citizens to applaud the life of this special American and her achievements.
