Proc. 2017-08 - Wynne Home 10th Anniversary Week - 11-13 to 19-16 PROCLAMATION No. 2017-08 WHEREAS the historic Wynne Home, built in 1883, was generously given to the City of Huntsville in 1998 for cultural activities for the community by Samuella Wynne Palmer, individually, and on behalf of the estate of Ruth Wynne Hollinshead; and WHEREAS, the City of Huntsville gratefully accepted the gift and the obligation to operate the facility for cultural activities and as a center for arts and tourism; and WHEREAS funds for renovation were raised by the community to augment the City’s funds through contributions and grants, with renovation being conducted from 2004-2006; and WHEREAS the City of Huntsville works to promote cultural preservation with and among local organizations, artists, museums, and educational entities; and WHEREAS in 2009, the Walker County Historical Commission awarded the City for the restoration and adaptive reuse of the 1883 Gibbs-Wynne House to the Wynne Home Arts Center; and WHEREAS through the years since its opening, the Wynne Home Arts Center, assisted by the Friends of the Wynne and other volunteers, has provided art exhibits, classes, workshops, school field trips, tours, performances, receptions, and other special events; and WHEREAS today we acknowledge the ten years this unique institution has contributed to our community. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that November 13-19, 2016 be designated as: Wynne Home 10th Anniversary Week in the city of Huntsville, and call on all our citizens to join in celebrating this special occasion.
