Proc. 2019-43 - Seven Hills day, 9-19 Proclamation N0. 2019-43 WHEREAS the Seven Hills of Huntsville create a stunning, natural setting that residents and visitors alike can enjoy and appreciate, with the establishment of a Texas Historical marker being erected by the Walker County Historical Commission in Town Creek Park; and WHEREAS the hills were said to be one of the reasons why Sam Houston chose the area to settle in, reminding him of his childhood home; and WHEREAS many early settlers were drawn to the area, with Capitol Hill playing a role in 1845 when Huntsville was being considered as the seat of State government; and WHEREAS the City’s heritage is engrained in the Seven Hills – Capitol, Cotton Gin, Smith, Depot, Peckerwood, Gospel and Knowledge hills, and continue to place an important role in within the City’s education, transportation, government and industry; and WHEREAS the Seven Hills is an interesting and historical significance to the geography of Huntsville. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that: September 14th, 2019 be declared: SEVEN HILLS OF HUNTSVILLE DAY in Huntsville, Texas, and encourage citizens to honor the historical footprint of #HomeSweetHuntsville.
