Proc. 2019-30 - National Tourism Week PROCLAMATION NO. 2019-30 WHEREAS travel to and within Texas provides significant benefits for the state, and contributes to personal growth, education, cultural understanding and enhancement of local businesses and communities; and WHEREAS travel supports more than 1.2 million jobs directly in in Texas in 2018, the eighth consecutive year of travel-driven employment growth, with many sectors of the economy benefitting; and WHEREAS total direct travel spending in Texas was $80.2 billion in 2018, impacting local and state taxes across the state, without which each household in Texas would pay an additional $740 in taxes to make up for the loss; and WHEREAS direct travel impact for 2017 visitor spending in Huntsville/Walker County was $87,550,000, employing 850 full and part-time workers, and generating over $7.5 million in tax revenue; and WHEREAS welcoming visitors from near and far always has been, and always will be, the enduring ethos of the travel industry and Huntsville, because “Travel Matters”. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: May 5-11, 2019 be declared: NATIONAL TOURISM WEEK in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to join in this special observance by enjoying all the special events and sites that draw others to visit our community.
