PROCLAMATION
NO. 2019-25
WHEREAS adequate housing is a basic need and a right of all people; and
WHEREAS April is the anniversary of the enactment of the Federal Fair Housing Act of 1968 (Title III of the Civil Rights Act) which states that discrimination in the sale and rental
of housing is illegal when based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin; and
WHEREAS the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 extend fair housing rights on the basis of familial status to families with children, and on the basis of handicap to disabled persons;
and
WHEREAS the City of Huntsville supports fair housing efforts to eliminate discrimination in housing, and, in order to heighten public awareness, the City of Huntsville wishes to focus
public attention on April as Fair Housing Month.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
April 2019
be declared: Fair Housing Month
in the City of Huntsville, and encourage all citizens and community organizations to celebrate the value of harmonious and diverse communities of neighbors, and supports the goal of
equal housing opportunity for all people.
