Proc. 2019-18 - Sexual Assault Awareness Month for 4-2-19
PROCLAMATION
NO. 2019-18
WHEREAS one in five women and one in six men experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetime, and, in eight out of 10 cases of rape, the victim knew the perpetrator;
and
WHEREAS one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old, and only 12 percent of child sexual abuse is ever reported to the authorities; and
WHEREAS during the month of April, the City of Huntsville joins Sam Houston State University, including numerous departments, student organizations, and law enforcement, Walker County,
HPD, SAAFE House and our community to expand awareness and prevention of sexual assault locally; and
WHEREAS all community members can help by supporting Denim Day on April 24th and other activities and events.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
April 2019
be declared: Sexual Assault Awareness Month
in the City of Huntsville, and encourage residents to recognize the need to bring increased awareness and education to this issue.
