Proclamation N0. 2020-13
WHEREAS crime is a scourge on our society that tears apart lives and breeds feelings of fear, anger, and helplessness, and it is the obligation of all to do everything possible to ensure
that our communities are not victimized by criminals; and
WHEREAS since its beginning in 1976, Crime Stoppers programs have empowered Texans to take a stand against crime by bringing together businesses, citizens, law enforcement, and the media
to combat crime and make our communities safer; and
WHEREAS combining media awareness, monetary rewards, and anonymity for tipsters, Crime Stoppers has created an effective method for solving crime and helping citizens take back control
over their neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS Crime Stoppers has been particularly effective in Texas, where anonymous tips have led to over 199,500 arrests and $4.5 billion in property recovered and narcotics seized
since the inception of the program; and
WHEREAS in 2019, the Walker County/Huntsville Crime Stoppers had 381 tips called in or placed on the website, and paid rewards of $6,100, resulting in $15,000 worth of property returned.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared: Crime Stoppers Month
in the City of Huntsville and call upon our citizens to recognize that they are able to assist in helping stop crime in our community.
