PROCLAMATION
No. 2016-10
WHEREAS for ten years, first the Junior Fellows and then the Law, Engagement, and Politics (LEAP) Center at SHSU have been enriching students’ academic education through internships,
volunteerism, access to national and international leaders, and other types of experiential learning events; and
WHEREAS these students also engage through service projects for immigrants needing citizenship preparation, mock election workshops for young and at-risk youth, and local tours and
national trips for greater exposure; and
WHEREAS Mike Yawn has been instrumental in the foundation and development of these programs, and in identifying and assisting in the advancement of the students who take part in them;
and
WHEREAS we gather today to thank Mike for his unceasing efforts and great success, and to thank him for assisting so many in attaining skills that will help them realize their full potential.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that
December 12, 2015
be designated as: Mike Yawn Day
in Huntsville, Texas, and urge all citizens to seek out and enjoy LEAP events and acknowledge Mike Yawn’s help so our young people achieve ever more.
