Proc. 2016-08 - Troop 114 100th Anniversary Day - 12-12-15 PROCLAMATION No. 2016-08 WHEREAS in 1915 Troop 3 of the Boy Scouts of America was formed in Huntsville, Texas, later becoming Troop 114 and part of the Sam Houston Area Council; and WHEREAS throughout the last century, Troop 114 has provided a place for scouts to learn about the outdoors, how to be a great citizen, to grow closer to God, and to be able to put in to practice principles of leadership; and WHEREAS 174 scouts have earned their Eagle Badges as members of Troop 114, including Huntsville's Mayor Mac Woodward, under the leadership of devoted scoutmasters and assistant scoutmasters including Forrest Leeper, Tom Rogers, Lamar Brown, Dr. Bill Abbott, Dr. Jerry McGee, and Larry Fusaro, to name only a few; and WHEREAS troop members have completed hundreds of hours of service across the community to assist others and beautify our area, as well as traveling throughout the United States and Canada to visit historic sites, learn about our past, and camp in the glory of the wilderness; and WHEREAS we gather today to celebrate this rich heritage of helping young men grow into their full potential and the contributions of the many adults who have supported the troop over the years, as Troop 114 reaches the milestone of its 100th anniversary. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that December 12, 2015 be designated as: Troop 114’s 100th Anniversary Day in Huntsville, Texas, and urge all citizens to recognize the importance of the troop to our community and its young men.
