RESO CC 1978-10 - Expansion of Huntsville Municipal Airport f RESOLUTION NO. 78-10 WHEREAS, the City of Huntsville has had an ongoing program of improvement and expansion of the airport; and WHEREAS, the cost of these improvements has been borne by the U. S. Government through the Federal Aviation Administration, State Government through the Texas Aeronautics Commission, and the City of Huntsville by all of its citizens; and WHEREAS, it was necessary to clear an additional seven acres of land for the extension of the runway from 3,700 feet to 5,000 feet, and the only bid for this clearing was $1 ,385 per acre for a total cost, excluding engineering, of $9,695, and this bid was considered excessive and not in the best interest of the taxpayer; and WHEREAS, Mr. Don Taylor of Champion International did agree and offer that his Company would clear the land as needed as a cost free contribution to the City and its citizens, saving the taxpayers $9,695. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council that the elected representatives of the City do hereby express their sincere appreciation, their thanks, and this Resolution of Commendation for valuable community service rendered to the City by Mr. Taylor and Champion International .
