Proc. 2012-13 Josey Boy Scout Lodge Day 11-12-11PROCLAMATION NO. 2012-13 WHEREAS on December 19, 1933, Robert A. Josey of Houston wrote Tom Ball, Huntsville District Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America, of his desire to help establish the organization more permanently here in Huntsville, enclosing a check for $3,000.o0; and WHEREAS Gibbs Brothers and Company donated the logs and rock for this unique and versatile structure, which was completed in seventy-five days by a crew of about fifty workmen from the Civil Works Administration; and WHEREAS Josey Lodge was dedicated on June 17, 1934, its "lodge pole" design remaining virtually unchanged over the last seventy-five years, and still supported by an endowment from Mr. Josey; and WHEREAS the Texas Historical Commission received an application, requesting the Josey Lodge be designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, with approval obtained during the 75th Anniversary of the Josey Lodge in 2010, and the marker being installed and unveiled to the community of Huntsville on this day. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: November 12, 2011 be declared: "Josey Boy Scout Lodge Day" in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to share in our community's appreciation of Mr. Josey's original contribution and this significant acknowledgement by the Texas Historical Commission.
