WHEREAS the Social Society of Independents was first formed at Sam
Houston State University on October 23, 1972 by founding
member Calvin Berryhill and with the help offaculty advisor
Dr. Harry Bohan; and
WHEREAS over the lastforty years, hundreds of young men and women
participated in the organization, whose fundraising efforts
contributed largely to the United Way in Walker County; and
WHEREAS this weekend represents the first time members of all years
have been able to come together in celebration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power
vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that
October 13, 2012

be declared: "Social Society of Independents Day"
in the City of Huntsville, and encourage all citizens to welcome all members back
to the community for this special event.
