Between the Pages On Thursday August • City Connection 25, 2016, the Huntsville ' ° " ' • General City News Police Department will f • This week in Huntsville have additional officers y on duty for a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated)-No Refusal Operation. i City of Huntsville Police Chief and Director of Public Safety Kevin Lunsford said, "Back to school means more drivers and families on the roads, and we want to ensure their safety by stepping up prevention measures against intoxicated drivers. The ultimate goal is to reduce the number of intoxication-related crashes, injuries, and deaths on Huntsville roads and keep our residents and visitors safe." In Texas, anyone driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher is considered legally impaired. Under the No Refusal program, police officers may seek blood search warrants for offenders who are arrested for DWI and refuse the officer's request for blood alcohol testing. Blood samples collected can be used as evidence in the DWI cases. A arrest and conviction for DWI in Texas can cost$17,000 or more, as fees may include car towing and impoundment, bail, attorney fees, court costs, hearing and fees to regain and retain a driver's license, DWI fines, probation costs, fees for extended proof of insurance, and possible insurance rate hikes. Local judges will be available to make probable cause determinations and authorize the blood search warrants. Prosecutors and nurses will also work through the night to assist police officers with these investigations. For more information, contact HPD Lt.
