City Connection . General City News • Solid Waste& Recycling • Solid Waste& Recycling This Week in Huntsville CAMa Mandatory water restrictions are being implemented due to a combination of a leaking 30" raw water line that transmits water from the Trinity River to the TRA surface water plant, the failure of one of our 7 wells and excessive high temperatures. The City can provide water necessary for public health and safety from our groundwater sources. However, groundwater production cannot meet the typical summertime demand due to increased outdoor watering on its own. The leak repair is proceeding as scheduled, we anticipate repairs to be complete by next week and restrictions will be lifted at that time. We understand that citizens are experiencing brown water due to the wells. However, this only affects the aesthetics of the water. The water is still safe for drinking and is continuing to meet all drinking water standards. The City of Huntsville has implemented Stage 3 of the Drought Contingency Plan to maintain normal water storage levels. Stage 3 restrictions are as follows: The target is to achieve a 50% reduction in daily water demand. The City will accomplish this by discontinuing the flushing of water mains, discontinuing the irrigation of public landscaped areas and reducing system pressure where possible to conserve water. Water use restrictions for City of Huntsville water customers include all outdoor water use is prohibited, except for that required for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare. These water restrictions apply only to City of Huntsville customers not Walker County Special Utilities District, Phelps Water System or any other water services. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the City of Huntsville Public Works Department at: 936-294-5768. The Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan is attached.
