WHEREAS Brigade Special Troops Battalions, known as BSTBs, are a recent addition to
the Army's structure, created to provide command and control of the multiple support
companies within the Brigade Combat Teams; and
WHEREAS the Seventy- second Brigade Special Troops Battalion was established in
September of 2007, and, since its inception, has responded to emergencies including
Hurricanes Gustav, Dolly, and Ike. The Battalion is headquartered in Huntsville, Texas,
and commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Raymond Cooper. The senior enlisted advisor is
Command Sergeant Major Jorge Torres, Jr.; and
WHEREAS when deployed to Iraq in 2009 -2010, the Seventy- second STB transferred 85 of
its Soldiers and ninety percent of its senior staff to meet the personnel needs of other
brigade units deploying, and also deployed its Alpha Company, an engineering unit; and
WHEREAS the STB's headquarters and deployed companies served as a key enabler in
preparing augmenting units for the mobilization, provided support for the families of
those units, performed as a detainee guard force, and helped with the transition of the two
largest internment facilities to the control of the Government of Iraq.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in
me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

in the City of Huntsville and call upon our citizens to join in thanking and honoring these fine
Soldiers and their significant work and contributions.
