Huntsville Police Department Investigates Murder of Local Resident
The Huntsville Police Department is investigating a shooting which has resulted in the death of Timeshia
Roshandra Franklin, 34.
On December 6, 2015, officers with the Huntsville Police Department responded to the 200 block of US
190 East in reference to a shooting. On scene, officers discovered the shooting victim, Franklin, with a
gunshot wound to her upper torso. Despite lifesaving efforts by personnel with the Huntsville/Walker
County EMS, Franklin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officer Keith Sarraf’s quick response led to the detention and eventual arrest of Earnest Utley, 63, for
murder.
Detectives with the Huntsville Police Department learned that an altercation had occurred between the
victim and the suspect, which led to the shooting.
HPD Chief Kevin Lunsford said, "Due to the quick response of our patrol officers, the suspect was
apprehended while still at the scene and the murder weapon was recovered. HPD Detectives were able to
process the scene and interview witnesses as well as the suspect bringing this case to a swift conclusion.”
Chief Kevin Lunsford thanked the Walker County District Attorney’s Office, Texas Rangers, and the Sam
Houston State University Police Department for their assistance in this case. Chief Lunsford praised the
community for their continued help.
