HPD collars stabbing suspect
On Thursday, December 3, 2015, at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers with the Huntsville Police
Department (HPD) responded to a stabbing call in the 500 block of Bowers Boulevard. Upon arrival, the
officers found a female victim with stab wounds to her neck and shoulder area. Officers located the
suspect near the scene and took him into custody. The victim was ultimately flown to Hermann Memorial
Hospital via Life Flight. The extent of the victim’s injuries is not known at the time of this release.
The suspect, Shabaz Andrews, 22, is believed to be from the Spring, Texas, area. Andrews is charged
with aggravated assault, a felony of the first degree due to the relationship between Andrews and the
victim. A first degree felony carries a punishment of five to 99 years imprisonment in the Texas
Department of Criminal Justice, and the possibility of a fine not to exceed $10,000.
HPD Chief Kevin Lunsford said, “I am very proud of our officers’ quick response and action in this
investigation. Their work has enabled us to close this quickly and get the suspect in custody.”
