WHEREAS, on September 26, 1978, the City Council of the City of Huntsville
established the Huntsville Arts Commission which is composed of three members,
appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council for the purpose
of hearing ideas for programming in the arts; for determining the annual budget
for the arts subject to approval of the City Council; and for providing leader-
ship to private organizations in the community for the promotion of the arts
in Huntsville; and
WHEREAS, this Commission was granted the assistance of an additional
eight (8) appointed advisory members to the Commission, whose responsibility
is to submit ideas to the three member Commission for consideration; and
WHEREAS, the Huntsville City Council now desires to establish Huntsville
as the area's "Center" for arts activities and wishes to invite representatives
from neighboring towns to participate in the Huntsville Arts Commission meetings
as Associate Advisory Members to the existing eight Huntsville resident Advisory
Members so that information about arts activities may have a wider dissemination
and so that the City Council might receive their suggestions and ideas; and
WHEREAS, the towns of New Waverly, Trinity, Riverside and Coldspring are
hereby invited to appoint an official representative from their communities
to participate in the work of the Huntsville Arts Commission as Associate
Advisory Members to serve for a term of two years each; and
WHEREAS, the option to include a representative from other towns not
specifically named in this resolution is also provided by way of this
resolution;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the
City of Huntsville, Texas, that the towns of New Waverly, Trinity, Riverside,
and Coldspring are invited to appoint an official representative from their
communities to act in an Associate Advisory Member capacity to the existing
Huntsville Arts Commission for a term of two years; and that a representative
from other towns not named herein may also be invited to participate under
the terms herein established.
