RESO 1982-15 - Electric RatesRESOLUTION NO. 82 -15
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE,
TEXAS, ENCOURAGING THE USE OF MORE INNOVATIVE RATE STRUCTURES
FOR ELECTRIC SERVICE USERS, AND MAKING OTHER FINDINGS RELATED
THERETO.
WHEREAS rates for residential electric service have increased
tremendously in recent years; and
WHEREAS it is expected that rates for electric service will continue to
increase; and
WHEREAS individuals on fixed incomes, including the elderly and retired,
are severely impacted by the rising costs of electricity; and
WHEREAS electrical service for air conditioning, heating and other uses
is necessary for the health, safety and welfare of the elderly and
retired;
NOW, THEREFORE,
The City Council of the City of Huntsville, Texas, resolves that:
Section 1: Gulf States Utilities and the Public Utilities Commission
consider alternate residential rate structures, such as life line rates,
that could minimize the increasing energy cost burdens placed upon the
elderly and persons on fixed incomes.
Section 2: Copies of this resolution shall be forwarded to Gulf States
Utilities, the Public Utilities Commission and the Texas Municipal
League.
Section 3: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
passage by City Council.
