A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE,
TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION TO THE
TEXAS FOREST SERVICE - AMERICA THE BEAU 1'T'UL - TEXAS INITIATIVE
CHALLENGE GRANT PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ACT AS THE CITY'S EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND AUTHORIZED
REPRESENTATIVE IN ALL MA'T'ERS PERTAINING TO THE CITY'S
PARTICIPATION IN THE AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL GRANT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Huntsville desires to develop and maintain a viable urban
community, including a suitable living environment; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the high aesthetic and functional value of green space and
landscaped areas; and
WHEREAS, the City of Huntsville and Walker County have agreed to the development of a Founder's
Spring Park on land owned by the County which was the original town spring site; and
WHEREAS, the Texas Forest Service has available grant funds for the purpose of planting trees on land
owned or controlled by state or local governments through the America the Beautiful - Texas Initiative
Challenge Grant Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS:
That an America the Beautiful - Texas Initiative Challenge Grant Program Application is hereby
authorized to be filed on behalf of the City with the Texas Forest Service.
2. That the application be for $5,958 of grant funds to carry out tree planting at Founder's Spring
Park.
That the City Council directs and designates the City Manager as the City's Chief Executive
Officer and Authorized Representative to act in all matters in connection with this application and
the City's participation in the program.
4. That it further be stated that the City of Huntsville is committing $7,282 as an in -kind
contribution toward the activities of this project for a total project cost of $13,240.
