A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT
APPLICATION TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION OF THE
GOVERNOR'S OFFICE FOR PURPOSES OF FUNDING A POLICE
OFFICER TO ADMINISTER TO A GROWING PROBLEM CONCERNING
GANGS AND THEIR ACTIVITY WITHIN THE CITY.
WHEREAS intelligence information received by the Huntsville Police Department indicates no
fewer five gangs are currently active within the City; and
WHEREAS reports indicate these gangs are organized and use the sale of illicit drugs as a
primary source of income for funding gang related activities; and
WHEREAS existing gangs are in direct competition with each other which has led to violent
assaults and the carrying of weapons by gang members;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS:
SECTION 1: That a grant application for the funding of a Police Officer is authorized to be filed
on behalf of the City with the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office.
SECTION 2: That the application be for $8,130 of grant funds, and $32,520 matching funds, for
the funding of a Police Officer for purposes of identification, processing, and
incarceration of those offenders associated with gang related activity.
SECTION 3: That the City Council directs and designates the City Manager as the Chief Executive
Officer and Authorized Representative to act in all matters in connection with this
application.
SECTION 4: This resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage by City Council.
