A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE,
TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO
THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION OF THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE FOR
PURPOSES OF FUNDING FOR TWO POLICE OFFICERS TO ADMINISTER TO
A GROWING PROBLEM CONCERNING STREET DRUG AND VIOLENT CRIME
ACTIVITY WITHIN THE CITY.
WHEREAS information and reports received by the Huntsville Police Department indicates an
increasing street drug and narcotic problem within certain areas of the community;
and
WHEREAS street drug activity is contributing greatly to increased violent criminal activity
including homicides; and
WHEREAS a need exists for closer interaction between police officers and residents of these areas
of the community in order to eradicate the drug activity and establish a safer
neighborhood environment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS:
SECTION 1: That a grant application for the funding of two Police Officers is authorized to be filed
on behalf of the City with the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office.
SECTION 2: That the application be for $11,422 of grant funds, and $62,280 matching funds, for the
funding of two Police Officers for purposes of identification, interdiction, and
incarceration of those offenders associated with street drug and violent crime related
activity.
SECTION 3: In the event of loss or misuse of Criminal Justice Division funds, the City of Huntsville
assures that funds will be returned to the Criminal Justice Division in full.
SECTION 4: That the City Council directs and designates the City Manager as the Chief Executive
Officer and Authorized Representative to act in all matters in connection with this
application.
SECTION 5: This resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage by City Council.
