Mayor Mac Woodward announced this morning he will not seek re-election in November.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Huntsville on the City Council for over twelve years.
It has also been so rewarding to work with all the employees of the city who work hard every day to serve the
citizens, not asking for recognition or thanks. I can say without reservation we are very fortunate to have such a
dedicated and devoted group of people," Mayor Woodward said. "It is exciting to look to the future of Huntsville.
We see new opportunities and possibilities. This is a unique and great community that has so much to offer."
"I want to express my sincere appreciation to everyone for giving me the opportunity to serve this community. It
is the caring spirit of the people of Huntsville that makes it such a great place to live and work."
Mac Woodward served on the City Council as the Ward 2 Councilmember from 2003 to 2011, and was chosen as
Mayor in the November 2011 election. He followed the example of public service of several of his relatives,
including his great grandfather, W. T. Robinson, who was Huntsville's mayor in the 1870s.
Filings for the November 3, 2015 election officially opened statewide on Saturday, July 25 (City Hall is open 8
a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday). The filing period continues until August 24, at 5 p.m.
