WHEREAS RoxieAnna Roy Douglas was born onApril7,1924 and was a proud resident of the
City of Huntsvillefor many years; and
WHEREAS Roxie also touched the lives of many through her service to the First Missionary
Baptist Church, her involvement in civic and charitable organizations and the love
and compassion she gave freely to others; and
WHEREAS the strength, self- sacrifice, determination, and love for others demonstrated by
Roxie throughout her life shall forever stand as a shining example for others who
wish to live a long, prosperous and happy life; and
WHEREAS since 1997, the Roxie Douglas Scholarship Foundation has awarded 46 scholarships
to graduating seniors, and 48 Humanitarian Awards. The Roxie Douglas
Scholarship Foundation will open a G.E.D. and After School tutorial center on
August 23.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBYPROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
a Councilmember of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared:
"CAMPAIGN TO STAYIN SCHOOL DAY"
in the City of Huntsville and urge all residents to join with them in remembrance of this fine
citizen and her example to her community.
