WHEREAS the City of Huntsville, Alabama was first founded around 18o5, known then as
Hunt's Spring; and
WHEREAS in the 183os, Pleasant and Hannah Gray lived in Hunt's Spring, Alabama, and
chose to move to Texas; and
WHEREAS Pleasant Gray secured land from the Mexican government and established a town,
set up a trading post, and began to sell town lots; and
WHEREAS Pleasant Gray named the new town Huntsville, and his town has flourished to this
day, 175 years after Pleasant Gray received his land grant.
NOW, THEREFORE, BEITHEREBYPROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of
the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

"Pleasant Gray Day"
in the City of Huntsville and urge all citizens to acknowledge and celebrate with Pleasant
and Hannah Gray's descendents on this special occasion.
