WHEREAS Harry Joe Bruce and Reeves "Jeep Bruce were raised in Walker County,
and were 1934 and 1.936 graduates of Huntsville High School,
respectively; and
WHEREAS Jeep Bruce joined the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942, graduating from theAir
Forces Advanced Flying School Class 43 -D on April 22,1943, and was then
stationed in New Guinea; and
WHEREAS Jeep's plane went down on a combat mission on January 2,1944, wherein
he was killed instantly, and was posthumously awarded theAirMedal with
One Oak Leaf Cluster and the Distinguished Flying Cross; and
WHEREAS Harry Bruce joined the U.S. National Guard in September 194o ands was
commissioned at Advanced Training School on March 20, 1943 and was
stationed in England as part of the 434th Troop Carrier Group; and
WHEREAS Harry was fatally wounded at Bayreuth,. Germany, flying concentration
camp survivors, and died on April 24,1945• Harry received the Air Medal
with Two Oak Leaf Clusters for his part in the Normandy, Holland, and
Bastogne Airborne Missions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBYPROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

in the City of Huntsville and ask our citizens to recall with honor the memory of
these local brothers who served the United States with distinction.
