Proc. 2011-21 National Autism Awareness Month 04-11VMEREAS Autism Spectrum .Disorder is a lifelong developmental disability, resulting
in a range of significant impairments to an individual's ability to learn,
develop healthy interactive behaviors, and understand verbal, nonverbal,
and reciprocal communication; and
YITHERFAS men and women on the autism, spectrum..have thrived and excelled in
communities across America and around the world. Yet, despite great
progress in understanding ASDs, challenges remain for these individuals
and their loved ones; and
WHEREAS Autism is the third most common developmental disability, affecting 46
students in the Huntsville Independent School .District; and
TMERE'AS although a cure forAutism has not been found, persons with autism can be
helped to reach their greatest potential. Accurate, early diagnosis, and the
resulting appropriate education and intervention are vital to the highest
quality of lifefor the individual.
NOW WHEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLMMED, by the power
nested in me as .Mayor of the City, of Huntsville, Texas that:

in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to recognize the contributions of individuals
with ASDs and rededicate ourselves to the cause of understanding and responding to autism.
