RESO 2004-16 - Support H.E.A.R.T.S. Museum fundraising effortsRESOLUTION NO. 2004-16 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE H.E.A.R.T.S. (Helping Every American Remember Through Serving) MUSEUM IN THEIR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS. WHEREAS WHEREAS WHEREAS The H.E.A.R.T.S Veterans Museum of Texas came about through a sequence of events that started on Veterans Day, November 11, 1994; and A local antique store used one of their display windows to honor a local veteran, Brigadier General Ray Lynch. Through the vision and hard work of co- founders, Charlie Davis and Charlotte Oleinik, this museum has become one of the finest examples of a grassroots organization of its kind, as well as a depository for military artifacts; and Local veterans and their families as well as members of the community have supported this museum with their time and money. Its historic preservation of local veterans and military artifacts has evolved into a valuable resource to visitors, researchers, students, and the media worldwide; and WHEREAS Through this growth, a need for expansion has been recognized. Construction of a new building is currently underway, adjacent to the Texas Prison Museum and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Sesquicentennial Monument and Plaza; and WHEREAS Funding for the new building, which will cost roughly three million dollars, is generated through a number of sources including gift shop sales, private donations, and various fundraising efforts; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, that: The governing body of the City of Huntsville supports the H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum in its fundraising efforts to establish a permanent site for the historic preservation of local veterans and military artifacts to showcase the history and culture of Texas veterans, setting an example to the United States on how much Americans value their war heroes and the people who served this great nation.
