RESO 2007-05 - Adopt the Huntsville Economic Development Strategic PlanRESOLUTION 2007 -05 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL ADOPTING THE HUNTSVILLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN AS RECOMMENDED BY THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL. WHEREAS, a copy of the strategic plan, which includes the text, charts and any other items which form the whole of the strategic plan and was made available for public review in the City Hall offices, the City of Huntsville Service Center, and the City of Huntsville Web site is attached hereto as Exhibit "A "; WHEREAS, the Huntsville Economic Development Council reviewed the strategic plan and on March 27, 2007, recommended its approval; WHEREAS, community input and comment was gathered in conjunction with the comprehensive plan between July 2006 and March 2007 through letters, e- mails, interviews, focus groups, ward congresses, public forums, and workshops; WHEREAS, City Council finds the Economic Development Plan includes the city's economic goals for promoting economic growth, a plan to accomplish those goals and a projected timeline in achieving those goals; WHEREAS, The Economic Development Plan addresses the city's goals pertaining to existing and future businesses, the presence of Sam Houston State University and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, expansion of the presence of Downtown, quality of life enhancement, workforce development, retail /service, tourism, infrastructure assessment and educational assessment NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS THAT, the Huntsville Economic Development Strategic Plan, a copy of which is attached to the original of this Resolution as Exhibit "A" and incorporated herein as if set out verbatim, is hereby adopted as a planning tool in the City of Huntsville, Texas. Other examples include regional economic development organizations (e.g., the Greater Houston Partnership), state agencies, and area utilities. • Identify other parties that could refer leads for Huntsville and set up a visitation schedule with a focus on Houston, Dallas -Ft. Worth, and Austin. Examples include local and regional construction firms, real estate brokers, banks, and service firms (legal and accounting), regional industry associations, and area universities and colleges. • Once materials have been developed for Huntsville, a direct marketing campaign can be initialed. Specific recommendations include: producing one -page marketing summaries for each target industry, creating a database of target companies, conducting a direct marketing campaign (direct mail and phone calls followed by visitation), and participation in key industry trade events.
