ORD 1987-02 - Streets Naming a portion of Ave F between 1st & FM 2821 as Martin Luther King Dr.ORDINANCE NO. 87- 2
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE,
TEXAS, NAMING AND DESIGNATING A PORTION OF AVENUE F BETWEEN
1ST STREET AND F.M. 2821 AS MARTIN LUTHER KING DRIVE; AND
MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED THERETO.
WHEREAS the City of Huntsville wishes to respond to a petition request to
name a street in memory of Martin Luther King; and
WHEREAS the newly constructed area of Avenue F between 1st Street and
F.M. 2821 is an alternate access to Emancipation Park and has been
recently opened as a connecting street between two major traffic
arteries of the City; and
WHEREAS this new street bisects Huntsville Independent School District
property (on which there are no current address locations as yet),
this memorial roadway may forever signify the educational goals that
Dr. Martin Luther King advocated;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of
Huntsville, Texas, that:
Section 1: The new portion of the street known as Avenue F between 1st
Street and F.M. 2821 be named, designated and called "Martin
Luther King Drive."

The recreation center at Emancipation Park is hereby designated
as the Martin Luther King Neighborhood Center.
The City Manager is hereby directed to erect or cause to be
erected appropriate street signs to reflect the name change.
This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after
passage.
