WHEREAS many Texans fought and served in the Vietnam War, with
over three thousand lost and more than ten thousand
wounded ; and
WHEREAS twelve Texas Vietnam Veterans received the Congressional
Medal of Honor; and
WHEREAS during the 79th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature,
House Concurrent Resolution 36 unanimously passed both
houses and signed into law on May 20, 2005, authorizing a
monument to be built on the grounds of the Capitol to honor
those who served in the Vietnam War ; and
WHEREAS the bronze maquette of the memorial, designed by Duke
Sundt, is being exhibited throughout the state with the support
of Chapter 1919 of the Order of the Purple Heart; and
WHEREAS the City of Huntsville recognizes and appreciates the service
of all military personnel, and salute the efforts to facilitate
this appropriate honor to Texas veterans of the Vietnam War.
