RESOLUTION NO. 2015-04
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE,
TEXAS, NAMING THE AMPHITHEATER AT THE SAM HOUSTON STATUE
AND VISITORS CENTER THE "GENE PIPES AMPHITHEATER"
WHEREAS the City of Huntsville is extremely grateful for the service to the City of
Huntsville by Gene Pipes;and
WHEREAS Mr. Pipes was instrumental in the development of the City of Huntsville,
including consistently striving for park, recreational, and educational
opportunities for the youth of Huntsville; and
WHEREAS the City Council has determined that the efforts of Gene Pipes on behalf of the
Sam Houston Statue and Visitors Center in particular, and for the community
as a whole, should be recognized and honored, and that the renaming of the
amphitheater at the Sam Houston Statue and Visitors Center "Gene Pipes
Amphitheater" is a fitting tribute to his service as City Manager for the City of
Huntsville.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Huntsville, Texas,
that:
SECTION 1: The amphitheater at the Sam Houston Statue and Visitor Center is now to be
named and called the"Gene Pipes Amphitheater."
SECTION 2: The City Council directs City staff to take all necessary action to change the
name on current signs, documents, brochures, and other materials and
media, current and future, and to notify all appropriate entities and agencies
of the name change.
PASSED AND APPROVED this 18th day of November 2014.
