Thank you very much!
The City of Huntsville's second annual charity bowling tournament was a huge success, with more than $10,000
raised for five local entities.
According to Dr. Sherry McKibben, Neighborhood Resources Director, a check presentation and reception for the
receiving entities will be held at City Hall on Monday, November 24 beginning at 3 p.m., and the public is
encouraged to attend.
"We are absolutely thrilled to be able to present the Rita B. Huff Animal Shelter, the SAAFE House, the Senior
Center of Walker County, the COME Center and the Good Shepherd Mission with a combined total of over
$10,000 and hundreds of pounds of non-perishable food items," McKibben said. "In addition to donating their time
and effort, many of our staff made the decision to donate their City-issued 'Turkey Bucks' vouchers for use at
Brookshire Brothers to the effort.
"The vouchers were used to purchase over$400 worth of meat, enough to feed the individuals utilizing the
shelter for about two weeks, including the Thanksgiving holiday."
McKibben said the food and money collected will be utilized throughout the holiday season.
"These donations are being given just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, and it is our honor to give back to

organizations that do so much for the citizens of Huntsville and Walker County," she said. "Representatives from
each of the benefiting charities will be present at the reception, and we look forward to giving the public a chance
to become acquainted with their organizations and missions."
Team effort
McKibben said the level of support generated during the bowling tournament would not have been possible
without the work of City staff, City vendors and local businesses.
"The City's charity bowling tournament is a multi-faceted event wherein staff contribute their time and money,
local businesses contribute various items to be used as raffle prizes, and City vendors help cover the overhead
costs of the event itself," she said. "This combined effort allows us to give the greatest level of monetary
support back to our local charities, and I'm pleased to say our second event was even more successful than the
first.
"We hope to continue this tradition every year, giving our employees a highly anticipated chance to give back
while having fun."
The November 24 reception will be held in the City Council chambers. Cookies and punch will be served.
