Proclamation No. 2024-16 Childhood Cancer City of Huntsville Proclamation No. 2024-16 WHEREAS National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is an initiative started by President Obama in 2011 with goals: to increase awareness, rally support, and improve the dismal childhood cancer survival rates in the United States; and WHEREAS Malachi Williams, a strong, brave 4-year-old boy, was diagnosed with Pleuropulmonary Blastoma (PPB), which is a rare childhood cancer occurring in the chest; and WHEREAS Pleuropulmonary Blastoma is included in 0.25–0.5% of all primary lung neoplasms. Although it is a rare diagnosis, PPB is considered the most common childhood lung cancer; and WHEREAS Pleuropulmonary Blastoma occurs in boys and girls equally. PPB mainly occurs in younger children, typically before the age of 5 years, but rarely teenagers or young adults are diagnosed with PPB; and WHEREAS I encourage our community to observe Childhood Cancer Awareness and support Malachi Williams and his family in this cause that so deeply impacts families in every community across our country. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Russell Humphrey, Mayor of Huntsville Texas, do hereby proclaim, JUNE 1, 2024 CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARNESS DAY in honor of Malachi Williams
