36-GSM PROCLAMATION NO. 2007-36 WHEREAS, The Good Shepherd Mission was founded in 1983 by Huntsville Ministerial Alliance; and WHEREAS, The Good Shepherd Mission is a non-profit, private cooperation funded through churches, local United Way, businesses, civic clubs, resale shops and individuals; and WHEREAS, Many times people in crisis are desperate and their needs are often more than physical. The Good Shepherd Mission’s primary goal is to provide hope for the hopeless, to provide counseling and referral counseling and to meet basic human needs; and WHEREAS, A host of volunteers, 12 part time staff and 1 director, all working together, provide services for more than 1,600 people each month; and WHEREAS, The Good Shepherd Mission is a recipient of the AT&T Accelerator Grant that will bring just over $25,000 to help The Good Shepherd Mission bring innovative ideas in using technology to benefit our community. These funds will also allow for kick-off of the H.O.P.E. House of Recovery Program for Walker County residents in need of drug and alcohol intervention and recovery; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that November 16, 2007 be designated as: GOOD SHEPHERD MISSION DAY in the City of Huntsville and urge all residents to join in recognizing the dedication of the Volunteers and Staff of the Good Shepherd Mission.
