24-9-11
PROCLAMATION 2007- 24
WHEREAS, we as a community and a nation have the tragedy of 9/11 etched in our memory as a time when our way of life was challenged and tested. A time that we mourned those who lost
their lives, so unnecessarily, at the Twin Towers, at the Pentagon and in a Pennsylvanian countryside; and
WHEREAS, through this, the American Spirit remained unbroken. That in a time of severe loss, we stood dedicated to the principles of honor, freedom and democracy that have guided our
country from the Founding Fathers to today. We have a renewed respect and admiration for our first responders – the countless men and women who protect us, our community and our nation
during times of disaster and acts of terror; and
WHEREAS, it is their acts of patriotism, selflessness and sacrifice that we lead our country to victory over evil and tyranny. We are thankful for these who have served heroically
for years and those who have answered the call from 9/11 to join the ranks in law enforcement, fire fighting, military service and homeland security. We are proud to salute these first
responders, including the police officers and firefighters who serve the City of Huntsville, whose spirit of national pride has allowed us to emerge as a stronger nation; and
WHEREAS, Let us continue to remind one another so that – we shall never forget. That each and every day, somewhere, a quiet hero must place their life in harms way so that we as a
people can continue our pursuit of happiness;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that
SEPTEMBER 11, 2007
be designated as:
“HONOR OUR HEROES DAY”
in Huntsville, Walker County, Texas, and all citizens are urged to recognize our own heroes.
PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED this the 7th day of September, 2007.
