17-small-business-wkPROCLAMATION 2007-23 WHEREAS Small businesses employ more than half the country’s private work force, create three of every four new jobs and generate a majority of American innovations; and WHEREAS Small Business Week recognizes outstanding small business owners for their personal achievements and contributions to our nation’s economy; and WHEREAS This year’s celebration will honor an estimated 25 million small businesses in America. The latest figures show that small businesses create 75 percent of the net new jobs in our economy and small businesses make up more than 99.7% of all employers; and WHEREAS Each year for the past 44 years, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation calling for the celebration of Small Business Week; and WHEREAS National Small Business Week is sponsored annually by the Small Business Administration and was celebrated nationally during the week of April 9-13, 2007; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that: MAY 17, 2007 be declared: “SMALL BUSINESS APPRECIATION DAY” in Huntsville, Texas, and in recognition of the foregoing statements of fact and the realization that with the exception of our two state agency employers and very few others gracing our area, all qualify as “Small Businesses”.
