WHEREAS, Colorectal cancer touches the lives of many Americans every year; and
WHEREAS, This year alone it is estimated that more than 148,000 new cases will be diagnosed and more than 56,000 will possibly die from this disease, making it a leading cause of cancer
death in our Nation; and
WHEREAS, Despite its high incidence, colorectal cancer is one of the most detectable and, if found early, most treatable forms of cancer; and
WHEREAS, Like many cancers, the development of colorectal cancer can take may years; and
WHEREAS, More than 90 percent of people who are diagnosed with colorectal cancer are over the age of 50. Yet, recent data indicates that less than 40 percent of adults age 50 or older
have had one of the available colorectal cancer screening tests within recommended intervals; and
WHEREAS, Individual must realize the importance of talking with their healthcare providers about when to begin screening, which tests to have, the benefits and risks of each test, and
how often to schedule appointments; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that

NATIONAL COLORECTAL CANCER
AWARENESS MONTH
in Huntsville, Texas
