PROCLAMATION NO. 2006-35
WHEREAS, the historic Wynne Home, built in 1883, was generously given to the City of Huntsville in 1998 for cultural activities for the community by Samuella Wynne Palmer, individually,
and on behalf of the Ruth Wynne Hollinshead estate; and
WHEREAS, the City of Huntsville gratefully accepted the gift and the obligation to operate the facility for cultural activities; and
WHEREAS, the City contracted for architectural studies, public input and recommendations for the broadest use of the Wynne Home; and
WHEREAS, City Council charged the Huntsville Arts Commission with the responsibility for building a community vision and a plan for the transformation of the Wynne Home into an Arts
Center; and
WHEREAS, the Arts Commission appointed teams of volunteers to plan in the areas of finance, physical structure, marketing, programming, and management; and
WHEREAS, funds for renovation were raised by the community to augment the City’s funds through contributions and grants; and
WHEREAS, construction began in spring of 2004 and is now complete; and
WHEREAS, now the Center will be open to the citizens of Huntsville and its visitors for a wide array of programs, classes and opportunities to observe and create art in its many forms;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that

be designated as:
Wynne Home Arts Center Day
in Huntsville, Texas, and citizens are encouraged to enjoy this Arts Center.
