32-AT&T Gulf Coast Council Pioneers
PROCLAMATION NO. 2005-31
WHEREAS, The AT&T Gulf Coast Council Pioneers use their many talents and capabilities in preserving
an important part of our natural heritage that people from throughout Texas can enjoy for years to come; and
WHEREAS, The AT&T Gulf Coast Council Pioneers look for opportunities to improve our communities
and make it a better place to live; and
WHEREAS, Last year the South Texas Chapter volunteered over 4-million hours of community service time; and
WHEREAS, This past year, the Council donated 4,000 seedling trees to the City of Huntsville to be given away at the annual Trade Expo; and
WHEREAS, Hurricane Katrina found many of our members serving the needs of the evacuees only to have Hurricane Rita chasing them from their homes. With only “the essentials” our members
evacuated their homes and also helped to evacuate those still displaced from Hurricane Katrina; and
WHEREAS, Mark Countz, Bubba Oliver, Jamie Jeter, Cecil Grimes and Poncho Roberts helped to a set-up a phone bank for the evacuees to use while housed in Huntsville. This group received
a heartfelt thank you from State Representative Lois Kolkhorst for their efforts in assisting hurricane evacuees; and
WHEREAS, The Council also donated 133 space heaters and Christmas trees to families displaced by the hurricanes in the Sabine Pass area; and
WHEREAS, The Council donated “I LIKE ME” books to the Sabine Pass School District for the Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade; and
WHEREAS, ; and
WHEREAS, concrete picnic tables and an amphitheatre were constructed and donated to the City of Huntsville at the Sam Houston Statue Park under the leadership of the Sam Houston Club,
Lillie Mae Hayman, Cecil Grimes, AARP President Joe King and Poncho Roberts; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
September 20, 2005
be declared: SBC Gulf Coast Council Pioneers Day
and by doing so call attention to the unselfish Spirit of Giving, Kindness and Good Will exhibited by the Telecom Pioneers of America that make a difference in our communities.
