29-good-deed-day PROCLAMATION NO. 2006-29 WHEREAS compassion and caring for our children, our families and our fellow Americans exemplify the deepest hopes of all the peoples of this great nation; and WHEREAS the future stability and character of our nation and our communities are the responsibility of all citizens and can only be assured if we continue to show generosity, selflessness and kindness toward each other; and WHEREAS on September 11, 2001, our nation was deeply affected by the heartless terrorist attacks and outpouring of support that followed from our own citizens and the world's nations; and WHEREAS there is continued support across the nation and in our communities for the continued observance of September 11, 2001, and this outpouring of compassion; and WHEREAS the Sam Houston Council, Boy Scouts of America has established a Good Deeds Day to give widespread attention to the need to promote compassion and caring through good deeds among our youth and all our citizens; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: SEPTEMBER 12, 2006 be declared: “GOOD DEEDS DAY“ in the City of Huntsville, and do further commend all good deeds committed by its citizenry on that day. Throughout the City of Huntsville I urge all government departments and agencies, organizations, schools, places of worship and individuals to celebrate Good Deeds Day in an appropriate manner. This may include personal unrecognized gestures of kindness and generosity; community service projects, exhibits and performances; a moment of silence or ringing of bells, and encouragement to individuals to perform good deeds for each other. There may be public awareness activities in our businesses, places of worship and educational institutions to help reinforce the need to care for one another, so that we continue to grow as a great people, a great city, and a great nation.
