WHEREAS Federal law prohibits discrimination in housing based on a person’s race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, or disability; and
WHEREAS this right is protected by a number of civil rights laws, the most significant of which are the Fair Housing Act, Title VI, and Section 504; and
WHEREAS the City of Huntsville affirmatively supports federal objectives related to Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity; and
WHEREAS it is timely that the month of June has been designated as Homeownership Month by Governor Perry;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me, the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared:
“FAIR HOUSING MONTH”
In Huntsville, Texas, and urge all local officials and public and private organizations to give full and requisite consideration to this timely and important policy component.
