18-GSHFF PROCLAMATION NO. 2006-18
WHEREAS The first General Sam Houston Folk Festival began in 1988 in a time of financial crisis for the Sam Houston Memorial Museum; and
WHEREAS The Festival has run on an annual basis, with a gradually changing emphasis from fund raising toward a broader educational goal; and
WHEREAS Currently the Festival attracts over 15,000 visitors to the Museum grounds for three days in late-April or early-May with a wide variety of craft demonstrators, living history
re-enactors, and musical and historical entertainment; and
WHEREAS These programs fit within the mission of the Festival, which is to increase all visitors’ understanding and appreciation for Texas History, the life of Sam Houston, and our frontier
and pioneer heritage;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
APRIL 21, 22 and 23, 2006
be declared:
GENERAL SAM HOUSTON FOLK FESTIVAL DAYS
in the City of Huntsville and invite all citizens of Huntsville to enjoy the Festival.
