17-Choate's 50th Anniversary PROCLAMATION 2006- 17 WHEREAS, Ann Merritt Choate, the daughter of Paul and Sarah Merritt, was born on July 23, 1936 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Rev. Karl M. Choate, the son of Dr. James and Dorothy Choate was born on September 27, 1933 in Houston, Texas; and WHEREAS, Karl, a graduate of the University of Houston and the Anglican School of Theology, served his country in the United States Army and successfully rose through the ranks in the pharmaceutical industry before becoming an ordained Episcopal priest in 1976; and WHEREAS, Ann, who also attend the University of Houston, taught pre-school, worked in church administration and most importantly, served as a devoted mother to her three children; and WHEREAS, Karl and Ann found each other on a set-up date in Houston, Texas and were blissfully joined together in marriage on April 25, 1956; and WHEREAS, Karl and Ann were blessed with the birth of three children: Kathleen Margarete Choate Richard, Paul DeGroat Choate and Jack Karlson Choate; and WHEREAS, Karl and Ann continued to be blessed with the addition of a son-in-law, Rand Byron Richard and two daughters-in-law, Mona Celia Sugg Choate and Deborah Ann Wenck Choate; and WHEREAS, Karl and Ann are the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren: Russell Byron Richard, David Randall Richard, Stephanie Renee Choate, Jennifer Kay Choate, Christopher Anson Choate, Abigail Ann Choate and Emilie Grace Choate; and WHEREAS, their life journey together has taken Karl and Ann from Houston, Texas to Nuremburg, Germany to Brooklyn, New York to Houston, Texas to Beaumont, Texas to Vidor, Texas to Sharpstown, Texas to Arlington, Virginia to Sterling Park, Virginia to Dallas, Texas to Lewisville, Texas to Waco, Texas to Houston, Texas to Richmond, Texas to LaGrange, Texas to Palacios and Matagorda, Texas to Sugar Land, Texas and then to the beautiful City of Huntsville, Texas; and WHEREAS, Karl and Ann cherish their family and the many dear friends made along the way. Despite their long journey to get here, the City of Huntsville is proud to have Karl and Ann Choate as active citizens of this community; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that April 25, 2006 be designated as: Karl and Ann Choate Day in honor of their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Huntsville, Texas PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED this the 22nd day of April, 2006. __________________________________ J.
