WHEREAS historic preservation is an effective tool for managing growth, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride and maintaining community character while enhancing livability;
and
WHEREAS historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds; and
WHEREAS it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage
that has shaped us as a people; and
WHEREAS "Sustain America - Vision, Economics, and Preservation" is the theme for National Preservation Month 2006, cosponsored by the City of Huntsville, Texas, the State of Texas
and the National Trust for Historic Preservation; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
May 2006
be declared:
“National Historic Preservation Month”
and
“The Airing of the Quilts” to be Huntsville’s official National Historic Preservation Month kickoff celebration
I call upon the people of Huntsville to join their fellow citizens across the great state of Texas and our United States in recognizing and participating in this special observance in
Huntsville, in honor of the men and women whose diligence and professionalism keep our City and citizens safe.
