WHEREAS, Melanie Holliday was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She studied classical ballet for fourteen years. At age 16 she was voted Miss Teenage Houston; and
WHEREAS, She spent two years at Sam Houston State University studying with Dr. Walter Foster. She then went on to receive her opera diploma from the University of Indiana and then to
Europe where she was recommended for Leonard Bernstein’s Candide in Vienna; and
WHEREAS, Soon thereafter, Melanie joined the ensemble of the Vienna Volksopera. Among her special roles was “Olympia” in The Tales of Hoffmann where she amazed audiences by singing
the demanding coloratura role “en pointe”; and
WHEREAS, Melanie continues to sing in Europe, in this country and has also become very popular in the Far East. She just returned from her annual tour of Japanese cities; and
WHEREAS, Melanie Holliday, Internationally Acclaimed Soprano will be in concert tonight presenting, “A Musical Journey from Vienna to Texas”. All proceeds of the concert will be donated
to the Rita B. Huff Animal Shelter to help enhance the services provided.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that
