WHEREAS, During Lu Ellen Gibbs young years, she enjoyed movies and stage plays in the various towns here father was sent to preach; and
WHEREAS, These memories eventually inspired a passion for the performing arts and she joined the Huntsville Little Theater; and
WHEREAS, During their production of Our Town, she was cast in the role of Mrs. Gibbs, while a young businessman from a local family, J. Philip Gibbs, Jr., played the Stage Manager; and
WHEREAS, Lu Ellen and J. Philip were married and their devotion to the community and town was important to them both; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Lu Ellen’s passion for the theater became apparent and eventually led to the renovation of the Old Town Theatre, which bears her husband’s name over the door;
and
WHEREAS, On behalf of the people and the town of Huntsville, we thank you for being a beacon of hope and inspiration to so many;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that

be designated as:
LU ELLEN GIBBS DAY
in Huntsville, Texas.
